Happy Holidays from M28!
As 2021 nears its end, we are looking back at all we have accomplished and thanking God for all of the encouragement we have received! One thing that stands out is the amazing support we have been given by so many individuals and businesses across central Pennsylvania. Since our doors opened ten years ago, we have mentored nearly 1,000 individuals, helping those struggling with substance use disorders stay clean, find meaningful employment, and get their life back.
Looking back over the past year, no one imagined that we would still be dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, yet here we are. So many people are still struggling with joblessness, hopelessness, and despair, which can lead to substance use and worse. Some believe these things are beyond repair, but at M28 Ministry we know there is a way through. We offer our lives, resources, and social capital to those in desperate need of a taste of grace. With December being National Giving Month, we are asking you to please consider a donation to M28 to help those who need a little guidance and support as they find their way out of darkness. Donate online and learn how you can help right on our website.
To mark our 10th anniversary and all we have accomplished, we held a celebration fundraiser gala at The Country Club of Harrisburg on October 28th. Since an event of this magnitude was a first for us, we didn’t quite know what to expect. So, we were happily overwhelmed by the number of attendees (120) and sponsors (more than a dozen corporate and individual ones) that supported the event, helping us raise nearly $37,000 to help us continue our mission. This included more than 20 first-time donors and 10 generously donated silent auction items. We are humbled by the experiences of the past 10 years and look forward to another ten years of helping people find their way in life. As we look back at 2021, we would like to acknowledge a few of the many accomplishments our team worked on this year:
- Our work positively impacted the lives of at least 800 people.
- We mentored 57 individuals.
- 63% of those we worked with stayed clean and sober for the entire year.
- By helping 36 men stay clean for more than a year, we saved the county and state more than $1.1 million.[i]
- Our House2Home program provided furniture free of cost to 115 families, for an estimated value of $110,000 in goods given. Since 2016, we have provided furniture to 950 families at a value of $520,000.
Our Assisi Program is a housing and whole life transformation assistance program that provides long term (one year) housing to people trying to rebuild their lives, serving as a platform from which they can pursue personal goals and improve their quality of life. The program’s first two participants, Josh and Derek, have done very well. Derek found a new place to live, secured long-term employment, has stayed clean for more than two years, and has a great relationship with his family. Josh is moving into a new apartment, has been promoted several times at his job, and has stayed clean for nearly three years now.
You can see that when we work together to overcome substance use disorders, poverty, and the other struggles affecting peoples’ lives across central Pennsylvania, we can reach significant, impactful milestones! As we look toward 2022 and what it might bring, we encourage you to remain involved with M28. We welcome your participation as a volunteer, as a donator of used furniture and other household goods for our House2Home Project, and as a financial contributor to the organization.
