David’s Story: Living Life ‘With God at the Forefront’

M28 June 24, 2024 News

“One of the best things I like about M28 is that step by step, day by day, I can really live my life on terms with God at the forefront,” said David Davenport. “I do not have to look a certain way or present myself as something that I am not. I can have flaws. I can be scared and can still do things that are pleasing to God.”

At the age of 14, David Davenport started using drugs. His drug use quickly took over his life, and he was always seeking stronger highs. For David, the party never stopped. This marked the beginning of his addiction. It all began with marijuana and then progressed to harder drugs. He would use anything available to get high. This was his way of escaping reality, and since he faced no immediate consequences for his actions, he saw nothing wrong with his lifestyle.

THE BEGINNING.

David grew up in a good home with two parents who instilled good morals in him. He attended a good school, was always safe, well-fed, and had everything he needed. His comfortable life shielded him from the harsh realities of street life and drug use. At the time he started facing consequences, he was already deeply entrenched in his life of drug use.

When he turned 23, David realized something had to change. He went to a Christian rehab and managed to stay clean and sober for just over a year but later relapsed due to a lack of understanding and the necessary tools to maintain his sobriety. During this time, he faced 32 arrests due in part to his lifestyle.

A LOVING SISTER’S INTERVENTION.

Concerned about her brother, David’s sister organized an intervention for him on the early morning of March 24, 2023. As a result, he entered treatment at the Gaudenzia home in Harrisburg and spent 112 days in rehab.

During his time in treatment, everything started making sense to David. He was committed to the process and sought to find God’s purpose for his life. After completing rehab, he went to the Daystar Center for Recovery, where he stayed for six months and two days. It was there that he was introduced to the M28 Ministry and Pastor Jim. David felt a connection with the people at M28’s worship gatherings and started to build a life with Pastor Jim as his spiritual coach.

LIVING LIFE ON GOD’S TERMS WITH M28 MINISTRY

“What I like about Pastor Jim is no matter what I have going on, I can tell him,” said David. “I do not have to hold anything back or keep secrets from him. He is not the type of person to tell me what I should do. He says things to open my mind up and motivate me to figure it out for myself with God at the forefront.”

Now, David is 15 months into his recovery. Doing life with Pastor Jim and M28 has provided him with guidance, direction, and practical tools to stay clean and sober. He is now moving forward in his life and feels a calling to mentor others who are in a similar situation to where he was a few years ago. David is taking his recovery one day at a time, looks forward to the future, and continues to bring others to M28 gatherings to share the goodness of the Lord with them.
