“I am now 18 months sober,” said Jason Boyer. “I have filled the void in my heart with Jesus and the community He put together for me through M28 Ministry.”
For over two decades, Jason was caught in a relentless cycle of addiction, chaos, and near-fatal tragedy. His alcohol exposure began as early as age 10, but the real descent started at age 12 when his parents divorced. The pain of his family breaking apart left him feeling broken and indifferent to his own future. By 15, he was in rehab for the first time.
Over the next twenty years, Jason navigated a dark world filled with heavy substance abuse, drug dealing, and constant encounters with law enforcement. Tragedies followed him everywhere: at age 17, his best friend was shot and killed right beside him in a drug deal gone wrong, with a bullet narrowly missing Jason’s neck. Years later in Atlanta, a severe overdose left him in a three-day coma, where doctors doubted he would survive or regain brain function. Time after time, he survived brush after brush with death, yet the empty void in his heart remained unfulfilled.
The Turning Point and Finding Faith
Despite brief periods of sobriety and moments of grace, such as spending a year taking care of his mother before she passed away, Jason continually returned to old habits whenever grief, stress, or isolation hit. By late 2024, after a severe relapse that spiraled into selling drugs and facing imminent prison time or violence, he reached a complete breaking point. He re-entered rehab and threw his hands up, determined to do whatever it took to surrender his old life.
That surrender led him to M28 Ministry. Through M28, Jason found a welcoming community that helped him build a genuine foundation in Jesus Christ. Weekly spiritual guidance from leadership, regular fellowship, and volunteering with M28’s “House to Home” furniture program provided him with structure, purpose, and a supportive network he had lacked for decades.
“I started volunteering every Thursday with M28 to go pick up furniture,” Jason explains how his new life now focused on recovery and giving back. “Pastor Jim talked to me about putting my recovery first and putting God first and just letting God do what He does and I have received so many blessings, like the community at M28.”
A New Foundation and a Hopeful Future
Today, Jason is 18 months sober, managing a recovery home, and thriving in an inventory control role at a local warehouse where he has been promoted three times. He also sponsors others walking the same path he once traveled. Through every hurdle, including health scares and financial transitions, his faith and the M28 community have kept him grounded.
Looking forward, Jason is stepping into an exciting new season of independence. After years of sleeping on couches or renting rooms, he is preparing to move into his own place, a major milestone that represents stability, restoration, and the lasting power of transformation.
